Real Food, Real Cooks

This photo depicts a bygone era when school lunches were prepared from scratch in the kitchens of ol' G-A and served on plastic lunch trays with metal eating utensils.
Mrs. Reeder, who managed the operation for the duration of my school years, produced scores of tasty meals for the meager price of 35 cents, in 1971, which included the substantial "seconds" serving.
Some of the more popular items were pizza-on-a-bun, macaroni and cheese, sloppy joe's and the heavenly apple squares and cherry squares. The only questionable item, in my opinion, was the scalloped potatoes, which had a strange odor about them. It is my belief that the root cause of the some-what gamey smell, of this particular dish, was the government "mystery meat" which was one of the ingredients.
All in all, this eating experience of long-gone days was head-over-heels over the current trendy nutritional meals of the new millennium.
